The Mind of Science
Religion and natural science are fighting a joint battle in an incessant, never relaxing crusade against skepticism and against dogmatism, against disbelief and against superstition, and the rallying cry in this crusade has always been, and always will be: "On to God!" -Max Planck
We all look forward to the day when science and religion shall walk hand in hand through the visible to the invisible. -Ernest Holmes
Since the dawn of modern science a half millenium ago, Western thought has indulged a cosmology of fragmentation, in the thrall of which we quite literally have been thinking the world to pieces. Only in the 20th century has scientific understanding of heretofore invisible sub-atomic and astronomical realms inspired a holistic paradigm of co-operation that once again empowers us to think the world together - as have numerous metaphysical cosmologies all along. -N.F.M.
Science of Mind
Science of Mind bears the same relation to religion that natural science bears to the laws of nature. It is a science of mental and spiritual phenomena, and as such it appeals to adherents of all religious beliefs, as well as to those who have no particular religious conviction; it appeals to all students of life. -E.H.

In all of his bestsellers, the Divine has told the truth -
The future man shall be so far aboveErnest Holmes was a prophet who forged a co-operative vision of humankind's evolution from the wisdom of the ages in conjunction with the leading edge of scientific thinking in his time. He synthesized scientific and metaphyisical insights into a practical way of living from wholeness, which he called "Science of Mind." Today Holmes' philosophy is ever more being appreciated as a step away from sectarian religiousity in the direction of universal spirituality.
Holmes' philosophy, like Unity, Divine Science, and other New Thought metaphysical perspectives, is an applied philosophy of personal as well as social transformation. Yet only now are New Thought's social potentials becoming appreciated, as we begin to envision co-creative, co-operative applications of spiritual and natural laws. Even Holmes proclaimed the co-operative implications of Science of Mind only in his final works, The Voice Celestial and Sermon by the Sea.
New Thought represents a historical culmination of the initial evolutionary phase of human consciousness: the personal adventure of individuation that began when the first human being attained reflexive consciousness and perceived that "I am." Today New Thought can be equally pertinent to the next phase of conscious evolution: the whole-species adventure of co-operation now evidencing itself in the globally integrative activities of individuated persons and organizations.
Those who resonate with Holmes' ultimate co-operative vision, as proclaimed in Sermon by the Sea, may consider themselves primed candidates for the role of conscious evolutionary. Our success in this role is foretold by Holmes in The Voice Celestial as follows:

When I first started this movement, I thought that I knew this principle. Now I know that I only know about half of it. -E.H. (Seminar Lectures)Ernest Holmes considered his Science of Mind philosophy to be "open at the top," not because more, better or different truth would one day be revealed, but because additional ways of perceiving and comprehending truth are eternally forthcoming, and thereby enhance our breadth (inclusiveness) and depth (profundity) of understanding. The CeleNet websites honor Holmes' intention that Science of Mind remain open to these enhancements so as to be ongoingly "custom-tailored to the comprehension of the times."
This "Mind of Science" website freshly correlates Holmes' Science of Mind in particular and New Thought in general with the emerging holistic cosmology of contemporary science. Though it initially features only the writings of its webwizard, pertinent materials from others will be added (or linked herefrom) as they, too, take shape and are called to his attention.
As the seeds of dialog planted in the Guest Book take root and bear fruit, discussion forums, an e-mail forum and chat room may extend the dialog, providing further materials for this website and/or its numerous related sites.

There is always a reciprocal action
between the Universal and the individual mind.
-E.H.All New Thought philosophies assume, as a fundamental principle of consciousness, that our most firmly held beliefs - of which we are often not fully aware - are primary creators of our experience. Beliefs shape our behavior (and sometimes vice versa), and our behavior in turn also shapes our experience (and again sometimes vice versa). This multiple cross-mirroring of our beliefs, behavior and experience is evidence of an all-pervading principle of cosmic order, the principle of reciprocity.
Reciprocity governs every human experience, as well as all other events in the cosmos. For instance, 1) when our expections of well-being are in harmonious accord with our beliefs and behavior, both conscious and subconscious, and 2) when our beliefs and behavior are likewise in harmonious accord with cosmic law and order, then our experience is reciprocally harmonious. However, when our expectations 1) are contradicted by some aspect of belief and behavior, or 2) contradict some aspect of cosmic law and order, we experience confusion, dissatisfaction, frustration and other forms of dis-ease.
In all cases, our experience reciprocates the blend of our conscious and subconscious expectations.
Science of Mind (and New Thought generally) has been eminently effective in the healing of beliefs and behaviors that contradict our expectations of personal well-being. It can now become equally effective in the healing of collective beliefs and behaviors that contradict our overall well-being as a whole species.

Science of Mind is a correlation of scientific law, philosophical knowledge and religious revelation which, when applied affirmatively in our lives, assures our optimum spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, relational, vocational and material well-being. As a spiritual and mental science of self-dominion, it empowers us to be the predominant creators of our experience in preference to living at the effect of our circumstances.

There is a Universal
Wholeness
seeking expression through everything..
-E.H.
Like all New Thought metaphysical perspectives, Science of Mind is a contemporary articulation of a "perennial philosophy" of non-duality that is herein termed the wholeness paradigm." Accordingly, New Thought metaphysicians endeavor to be non-dualistic in their thinking. For example, where others perceived antagonistic dualities, Ernest Holmes perceived a complementary "dual unity," sometimes described as "two ends of one unity." Where others perceived competitive opposition, Holmes perceived co-operative appositions. Hence his assertions: "The universe is forever uniting what is harmonious, and diminishing what is not," and "It is the unessential only that is vanishing, that the abiding may be made more clearly manifest." Holmes recognized that all experience of local contradiction is forever being resolved to the greater unbroken cosmic unity, and that prior to this resolution such contradictions reflect a discordant harmony, not harmony's absence. Were the concept and perception of co-operative unities easily attained and communicated, New Thought might already have transformed our planet. Unfortunately, our reliance on the prevailing dualism of conventional scientific thought, and of Western semantics in general, severely compromises perception from the non-dualistic perspective of wholeness. This is especially so with reference to cause-effect and subject-object relationships in human experience. We cannot fully articulate a wholeness paradigm with dualistic metaphors and language. Yet all known languages are dualistic, though some less so than others. Verbal maps of consciousness can never fully represent the integrity of its territory. At best, we can merely point in a direction beyond the dualism to which languages confine our verbalized thought forms - toward what philosopher Karl Polanyi called "the more we know than we can say." This challenge is but one of several concerns addressed on this website, others beingthe transformative power of intentionality [forthcoming]
the planetary impact of our collective consciousness as a species Science of Mind's potential for transforming our collective consciousness extraordinary states of human function [forthcoming]NOTE: The multiple contexts in which Science of Mind is examined on this site requires some redundancy of concepts and quoted materials. Nature operates according to a law of logical sequence. -E.H.
SCIENCE OF MIND AS A SPIRITUAL COSMOLOGY:In honor of Ernest Holmes' respect for the sequential nature of evolution and growth, the materials on this website articulate his perspective in a thoughtful progression. Eventual if not immediate attention to this progression will tend to provide the most coherent comprehension of Science of Mind's perspective.
We are so at One with the Whole that what is true of It is also true of us. -E.H.
We are evoluted by reason of the divine pattern and not the divine plan there are no divine plans. That would be finite. -E.H.Featuring:
An assessment of Ernest Holmes as a 21st Century cosmologist who synthesized the perennial metaphysics of wholeness with the emerging scientific paradigm of wholeness.
SCIENCE OF MIND AS A WHOLENESS PARADIGM:
SCIENCE OF MIND AS A CAUSAL PARADIGM:All nature waits on man's recognition of and co-operation with her laws, and is always ready to obey his will; but man must use Nature's forces in accordance with her laws, and in co-operation with her purposes which is goodness, truth, and beauty if he wishes to attain self-mastery. -E.H.

SCIENCE OF MIND AS A VIRTUAL REALITY:[A]treatment rightly given is absolutely independent of every theory of physical cause and effect, of psychic cause and effect, or psychosomatic relationships. -E.H.
If we set up a vibrating point at the center of our own thought receptive to that which is good, to that which is beautiful and true, we shall irresistibly be attracting that condition into our own environment. -E.H.Featuring:
An examination of the relationship between the Newtonian [mechanistic, competitive, dualistic] and Jungian [synchronistic, co-operative, holistic] paradigms of causality. Our understanding of New Thought's perspective overall can be no more effective than our least dual comprehension of its perspective on causality.
SCIENCE OF MIND AS AN EVOLUTIONARY STRATEGY:Talk to yourself, not to the world. There is no one to talk to but yourself for all experience takes place within. " -E.H.

A general assessment of the relationship between the contemporary mind of science and Science of Mind in terms of the co-operation of our subjective consciousness with our objective reality. From the perspective of quantum physics, all reality is virtual . . . which makes us all students at M.S.U.
SCIENCE OF MIND AS A PATH OF SELF-DOMINION:Through all the ages, one increasing purpose runs, and that purpose can be no less than the evolution of the highest spiritual attributes of [hu]mankind. -E.H.
Featuring:
**The global implications of our capacity for M.S.U. with relationship to conscious evolution;
**An interview with Barbara Marx Hubbard on Science of Mind's potential role in the co-operative evolutionary transformation of the human species.
We can see that no two blades of grass are alike and yet they are blades of grass; no two trees are alike and no two people are alike.... [T]here are generic or cosmic patterns of everything that exists. Within each generic or cosmic pattern is the individualization of the infinite members of the one generic pattern. I am not a monkey, I am a man. A rose is not a cactus. An acorn can only become an oak tree. Everything in the universe is sharply individualized. -E.H.
